This blog is a bit different in that I decided to pop a number of artists in this one…no reason other than I was coming to the end of the blog series and I just had to share these other artists. The blog series might resurface as there are plenty more great bands/artists in the area that your ears might only hear if you are reading this blog.

So here are some other artists that have been making great music in Chambery:

Jorma…blues guitar wizzard

While everyone else is skiing today I will be setting up the gear for the gig tonight with Tim O Conner.

I spent an entire day organising my music library thanks to the introduction to goodle play by a good friend of mine. Thus began the epic rumage.

To aid me I used xPort a free program by the good people at TransCopy to transfer music from my music device to my computer. Then with Tune Up another great app I was able to retrieve all the artwork, clean up the mess of untitled tracks etc, and then back it all up on to google play.

Wow, I feel organised…its been a while.

El Gruer and Nathan Brake, a poem on human traffiicking.
I listened to this a couple of times over, I have read a lot about the issues of trafficking and watched a lot of movies and lsitened to political songs and tried to do so myself with songs like “Let Justice Reign” , “Wish you all the best” and “Your Eyes”. But this 7 minute video was so powerful so honest, so raw, so true.
I recently got given a smartphone from a friend, and its cool, it does quite a lot of neat things. This video was a reminder…as cool as these things can be we must not get entangled in them and trapped by them so much so that the real world is shut off from us and what becomes real to us is this social media, facebook, iphone craze. It so selfish and inward, it is so blinding and controlling. Yet it is the means by which I have watched video’s like this or read blogs by Stop the Traffic or connected with musicians, producers and friends. None of these things bad, in fact many of them good and wholesome. But still this video is a shocking reminder that we can get too locked into a vision of ourselves and our social media frenzy that realities like those the video talk about don’t seem real to us…because we don’t see it, it isn’t in our faces all the time.
I watched Inception for the second time recently and that’s one of the core elements of the story that some people are convinced that the dreams are reality and so they choose that…or some like Mal (a character) who can only live in the dream. If you will allow me to compare the dreams to the smartphone world, social networking as a sort of dream, a disconnection from reality (at times). Films like this short poem invite us to be woken up to reality and to confront it.
The coolness of today’s gadgets invite us into self fulfilment, self indulgence having “all my social media, all my music, pictures, calendars in one place”, with apps for this and that but El Gruer and Nathan Brake invite us to wake up to the cage…bodies sold.
As a Christian I strongly believe that God invites us too, and that Christians can be part of demonstrating the Kingdom of God in love and mercy, in acts of justice, by transforming the world, their communities through social and political structures redeeming humanity, confronting cages like these. Thank you El Gruer and Nathan Brake for a wake up call.
