Why Living Room Gigs?
Living room gigs for me are a great way of stripping everything back to just the music. It is one of the most purest forms of sharing that music. Whether there is house packed with 20 or 30 people or a living room with 10 these events are special.

Dakar Diaries: Child's Play
Zech 8:5 “The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.”
This is our prayer that the new Jerusalem would be filled with boys and girls from Senegal, Talibe’s and beggars and that they would be among a great multitude of other children too.
Street children here in Senegal do play, they may kick a bottle or a plastic bag as a football, or perhaps play a...

Dakar Diaries: Thies
Thies is one of the next biggest places after Dakar. We spent a couple of nights with a WEC family. There we visited 4 ministries to children at risk. We really enjoyed are time there and got a real sense of God’s call on us for Senegal and working with street children here who have been Talibe’s.
We are now back in Dakar at the guest house and will visit more of the city over the...

Dakar Diaries: Obadiah
Today we visited a ministry called the Obadiah Project. We visited their school (abc), their drop in for street boys and their home for street boys. We then spent time with one of the missionaries, who spoke to us about the ministry and the phase 2 home for street boys.
It was great seeing what they are doing and getting an insight into how they started and grown.
At the school there are over...

Dakar Diaries: Downtown
People. Everywhere. Traders and sellers, people praying, people begging, talibe’s, yellow taxi’s, a cafe on wheels, food served on the street, market stalls and people offering ‘you come with me, I take you to my shop, just look, no charge’ that is those who spoke English.
We enjoyed some traditional tea called ‘ataya’ a sweet, strong tea with peppermint...

Dakar diaries: What's all that noise about?
Ok so we are coming up to a week now of being in Dakar and one thing that takes a fair bit of adjusting to is the noise. Its non stop, all day, every day. Its odd, having lived in Glasgow, near a motorway Dakar seems noisy. But it is different kind of noise. Its not so much cars, or music from clubs but it is horns, people, and the mosque. And it is constant!
Sleeping is not easy, the heat and...

Dakar Diaries: Talibe
Talibe means disciple. Talibe’s are children as young as 4 years old who have are living in religious schools called Daara’s. the religious teacher known as the Marabout trains the disciple children in the qu’ran and sends them out to beg for money and food for the Daara’s. Seldom do the children see any of this money or food and it more than often ends up in the...

Dakar Diaries: Hope
Today we have visited the House of Hope. We started off by visiting the older boys house. Here the boys have a tailoring workshop where we witnessed them working hard and saw some of their tempting items for sale.
Next we went to the girls house which functions as a drop in providing food and some education to girls that otherwise would be begging on the streets. These girls still have contact...

Dakar Diaries: Getting Around
So here we are day number one. We have spent most of today getting to know the area in which we are staying, buying some food for our stay and eating our first local dish.
The traditional way to eat is to share from a bowl. Each person starts from their section working towards the middle of the bowl. The first spoonfuls are just rice. After these then a person can take meat/fish. Today we ate a...

Dakar diaries; Airport
We have just left for the airport and will soon check in to fly to Dakar via Lisbon. I always prefer this outward journey perhaps because it is tangled up with excitement and anticipation.
We are excited about this trip where we will meet the WEC team and project workers that we hope to work with in Dakar. It is a significant trip for us.
We appreciate prayers and support at this time.
So we...

Indie Music Reviewer: Beyond the Sun
In a world filled with over-sharing and negativity, it is hard for a musician with an uplifting message to stay genuine. The world is polarized between those with faith and those without. What helps these people meet in the middle? It’s simple; it’s the belief they have in the music and how it touches our soul.
Christian music as a genre is one that focuses on the lyrics and works to deliver a...

Dakar Dream
Dakar a city of so much potential. The buzzing nightlife, the yellow taxi’s, a centre of religion, the smell of Ethiopian, Brazillian and other cuisines. However these are not the only things striking about the city. Children. Everywhere. Begging with their tomato tins, dirty and wearing rags.
What is the Dakar dream?
Is it the rally? Or is it Baaba Maal’s latest hit? Is it Islam?
My dream for...

The Midlands Prayer Day
Praying for children at risk
On Saturday Sarah and I led a group of people in the midlands in prayer for street children in Senegal. We shared a little bit about what God has been doing in our lives and leading us towards.
In the prayer time we led the group through an exercise using real life stories of street children in Senegal to stir some discussion about the...
